Discovering Your True Purpose...Moving Beyond the 9-5 Routine
I love it when someone asks me, "What do you do?"
And I say, "About what?"
In society, we're often valued by what we do,
Rather than who we are for God.
A recent poll revealed that 90% of Americans would quit their jobs if they won the lottery.
We would walk away with no hesitation.
Most of us work out of necessity…not a sense of purpose.
Statistics show we spend 90,000 hours at our jobs over a lifetime.
That's an enormous investment in doing one thing,
Instead of doing something we're supposed to be engaged in.
God designed people to work.
In Genesis 1:28, God says,
“Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
Verse 31,
"And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good."
He has a calling for work in our life.
But instead of honoring God with our work,
We count the minutes to escape from our jobs every day.
Our work life is an opportunity to fulfill God's plan in this world.
Just as Jesus called business people to follow Him,
And become "fishers on men" (Mark 1:16-20).
He invites us to listen to and follow Him in our workplace.
As Christians, we are to serve Jesus wherever He leads us.
What about you?
Are you seeking ways to make your relationships at work better?
How has God called you to your career?
God created you with unique gifts to be an influence in the marketplace.
Have you asked Him how He wants to use you for His plans?
Do you feel invigorated by your job, or is it drudgery?
What needs to change for you to be more excited about your work?
How is the world becoming better because of what God is doing in your life?
Remember that God wants you to have an eternal perspective on everything.
Best wishes for a day of wonderful discoveries for you!
